Character Skills
There are two sets of skills; base skills and advanced skills.

Base Skills

Base skills are skills that a character would naturally start out with and are often required before moving into advanced skills. Base skills are free and every character needs to have at least one base skill.

You can take more than one base class but the second base skill you choose is no longer free and cost 30 points per base skill you would like. Broods acquire weapons or augury base skills for free.

Brood cats cannot learn skills.

Advanced Skills

Advanced skills cost points (see how to accumulate points below) as well as having one or two base skills.

Acquiring Points

To give your characters skills they have to accumulate points. There are three ways to accumulate points.

The first way (and what will matter when you are creating the character) is through the life span of your character. When you create a character and they are of an older age then logic should dictate that they would naturally have already developed some base and advanced skills. To handle this we have come up with a system. For every 3 years of life your character has above 13 years old you get 15 points until the age of 50. At age 50 and over for every 6 years of life you receive 15 points.

After 100 years of age your character can no longer earn points.

The second is to post with the character, a character will receive 5 points for every new topic they start and 2 points for every reply.

The third way is through special events and games happening around the site.

As you write and participate in events around the site you build up points. When you want to trade in those points for skills you can can post here.

Base Skills
Definitions
  • Magic User: Anyone that uses magic not gained by praying to a deity or revering some concept. This is a catch all term and is very broad. Anyone from Earth or Utopia can be a magic user, though it is less frequent in character from Earth as magic is just returning.
  • Craftsmen/Businessmen: Is a catch all used to describe anyone that works in blue and white collar, retail or customer service jobs (for Earthbound reference) and any type of merchant, peddler or craft worker (for Utopian reference). This is another very broad skill that can be used for just about anything that isn't mentioned below. When selecting this you can certainly add specifics jobs for your character.
  • Student/Apprentice: Is a catch all used to describe anyone still in school and not employed, whether it is grammar school to college (for Earthbound reference) and any type of apprentice to any kind of trade craft (for Utopian reference). This is another very broad skill that can be used for just about anything that isn't mentioned below.
  • Entertainer: Is a catch all used to describe anyone who entertains others; whether it be from dancing, singing, stripper, writer or a bard from Utopia.
  • Trickery: For those that are both pranksters and those that are two faced liars. Those with the trickery skill can either be consummate liars, con artists, jokesters or a combination of these things.
  • Fighter/Brawler: For those that are naturally good at throwing and taking a punch. They like to fight and/or get into fights often. They can be small time bad boys or downright felons that are always on the wrong side of the law.
  • Weapons: Anyone that has studied the use of any type of weapon. For Broods, this means they are more physically incline than inclined towards psionics. For earthbound humans this means they have studied firearms. Those from Utopia could have studied with medieval weapons.
  • Augury: For a Brood only. This is any Brood that is more psionically inclined than physically inclined. See the information on Broods for more information.
  • Stealth: This is a term used for thieves and others that relay on being quiet and unseen to do their work. Those with the stealth base skill have some training in weapons but not heavy or large weapons that would be unable to carry around while trying to be quiet.
  • Priest/Priestess: This is for anyone who prays to a deity, or reveres a concept or ideal, like Buddhism or revering nature. They have some magic use and a limited amount of healing ability, depending on what your religion or ideal is.
  • Police/Law Enforcement: This is for anyone; human, brood or Utopian that serves in law enforcement, city guard or some other organized policing structure. Earthbound humans receive training in firearms, investigation and in rare occurrences explosives and other specialized fields. Advanced Skill
Definitions
  • Shadow Jumper: They can move from shadow to shadow, nearly hide in plain sight as long as there is a shadow nearby and to a small extent manipulate shadows with magic.
  • Assassin: They are elite hunters and killers of men and monsters and can be from Earth or Utopia. Those from Earth have training in firearms and technology while those from Utopia use medieval weapons and a small amount of magic to achieve their goals. Either is deadly and both relay on stealth.
  • Brood Hunter: Anyone from Earth or Utopia can become a brood hunter but you must have stealth or military as a base skill. You know how to hunt and kill broods effectively. You know their weaknesses and in some cases hate them with a passion. You also have knowledge of their lifespan, anatomy and other lessor known information about them and their major players.
  • Shifter: Used to describe anyone that uses magic to shift into other animals. This does not include werewolves which shift due to biological reasons and not magic. Earthbound shifters can be Native American shamans, voodoo priests or priestesses or just generic magic users that have found a spell to transform themselves into an animal. Utopian shifters are much more frequent as many Utopia spells allow for shape shifting.
  • Arcane Specialist: An arcane specialist specializes in one type of magic. Shadow mages are always arcane specialists and get this skill as a base skill for free. To be able to specialize in one type of magic they must give up at least one other type of magic in which they cannot use. The benefits of specializing are that the magic they specialize in is harder to deflect, avoid and protect against as well as dealing more than normal damage for damage dealing spells.
  • Martial Artist: This advanced skill is for anyone. You must have either the weapons or fighter/brawler skill to take martial artist. This gives your character the ability to be proficient at one of any of the various martial arts styles out there. Taking this once gives you knowledge and proficiency in only one style, to learn more you must spend the same amount of points as the first time you took it to gain proficiency with another style. Broods trained in the military already have this as part of their training.
  • Special Forces: This advanced skill is for Earthbound humans only. You must have military training to take this skill. This skill gives you advanced tactics and training in technology to go on strategic missions for the military of the country you work for. This includes the Navy SEALS, Army Rangers, British Special Forces, etc.
  • Sniper: This skill gives you specialized training in shooting ranged weapons from a distance. If you are an Earthbound human you are able to shoot firearms accurately from a further distance away, with the correct firearm. If you are from Utopia you use medieval ranged weapons (most likely some sort of bow or composite bow) to hit targets from a distance. Broods cannot become snipers as they do not use ranged weapons.
  • CIA Operative: Only Earthbound humans can take this skill but you must have the spy advanced skill This gives you specialized spy training by the U.S. CIA. You are proficient and knowledgeable in martial arts, firearms, covert tactics, undercover work, deception, etc.
  • Felidae: This is the Brood military. Only Broods can take this advanced skill. and must have the military and weapons base skill. Since this is considered the Brood military which technically is covered in the military base skill this is considered a higher rank of the main army (i.e. Officer rank)
  • Felidae Smilodon: You must be a Brood to take this skill and must have the military and weapons or augury base skill and Felidae or Augury, military advanced skill This gives a Brood elite and specialized training in weapons and/or psionics. They are the special forces of the Brood military in addition to guarding the Brood castle.
  • Leader: You can be from anywhere and take this skill. You are adept at leading people; including persuading them to a cause, getting others to respect you and/or obey you. You understand how to motivate groups of people and do so well enough to lead them from various situations, etc.
  • Crafty: You are adept at thinking on your feet. You can make a bomb from a paperclip and coffee, or some other highly unknowable or difficult task. You can come up with and fabricate ways out of a situation that baffle others.
  • Lucky: You are incredibly lucky and always have been, whether it was that time in High School when you kicked the winning field goal that was so impossible to do or missed dying by some highly fortuitous happening that others consider you to be good luck or that good things generally happen to you.
  • Shrewd: You have an unusual sense of good judgement and or are cold and calculating. You know, whether by good sense or common knowledge, when a decision is going to be good or bad. You are able to even sometimes put your emotions aside and make the correct choice despite what your emotions are telling you.
  • Millionaire: Whether through luck or shrewdness you have been able to amass a good fortune in wealth. You want for almost nothing and can financially obtain anything you could want.
  • Augury, military: Only a brood can take this advanced skill and they must have the augury and military base skill to take this. You gain the ability to use your psionics with military tactics in mind. You learn how to use your mind as a whole unit and not an individual. You are better able to work with the rest of the brood military with regards to your psionic abilities.
  • Mentalist: Only a brood can take this advanced skill and they must have the augury base kill to do so. A mentalist is a Brood so concerned with mental power that they sacrifice learning new mental abilities for the sake of mental power. Meaning the basic mental powers they do know are stronger, more efficient and last longer for the sake of knowing more detailed mind abilities.
  • Arcane Archer: Only those from Utopia can take this advanced skill and must have weapons as a base skill. You are able to learn how to blend magic with your ranged weapon (most likely a bow or composite bow). Your ranged ammunition becomes magically enchanted and you can cast spells into them. You also are able to use other special magics that help your archery.
  • Pyrokineticist: You must be a brood to take this advanced skill and must have the augury base skill. You learn to use fire in your psionics and become extremely proficient in it. Controlling and manifesting fire becomes like second nature to you. Fire hardly hurts you unless in the extreme.
  • Elementalist: You can be either from Earth or Utopia to take this advanced skill but must have magic user base skill. You can specialize in any type of element and become immune to that element, though that element's opposite is easier to hurt you. The element you specialize in does more damage and you can cast it like second nature and prefer to cast that element. You are more likely to know obscure spells regarding the element you specialize in.
  • Mage Hunter: Anyone from Earth or Utopia can become a mage hunter but you must have stealth and weapons as a base skill. You know how to hunt and kill mages effectively. You know their weaknesses and in some cases hate them with a passion. You are able to shrug off lesser spells that they cast that might harm you.
  • Spy: You can be from either Earth or Utopia to take this and must have the stealth or weapons base skill. You learn the ways of gathering information, interrogation, persuasion and deceit. You can either work for an organization or government or be freelance.
  • Healer: Anyone from Earth or Utopia can take this advanced skill but you must have the Priest/Priestess base skill. You are very adept at the healing arts. You gain specialized knowledge and ability to heal even rare diseases or conditions.
  • Devotee: Anyone from Earth or Utopia can take this but you must have the Priest/Priestess base skill. You are so devoted to your religion or ideal that you gain special abilities and knowledge based on your religion or ideal. This is by the players discretion but will be monitored by staff to ensure it isn't overpowering or being abused. You generally receive additional information or knowledge in regards to the teachings of your religion and one or two additional abilities (magic or otherwise) based upon the teachings or your religion or ideal.
  • Naturist: You can be either from Earth or Utopia to take this advanced skill but must have either magic user or priest/priestess base skill. A naturist is more in tune with nature. They cast only nature-type spells (including elemental spells) and seek a balance with nature. They gain strength from the land and cannot tolerate polluted or impure areas.
